We are a community, and we are powerful.
That’s because women buy or influence the purchase of 85% of all cars. Without us, the auto industry would not thrive.
Realizing this, SheBuysCars was born as a community of writers, influencers, friends and women who buy, care for, and live their lives in and around their cars: their own car, the family car, and often the cars of family members. The brainchild of TravelingMom.com founder Kim Orlando and editor and journalist Scotty Reiss, SheBuysCars is dedicated to sharing car purchase information, experiences and stories, told from personal points of view and focusing on what is important in a fun, smart, advice-from-your-best-friend way.
Just as TravelingMom has become a community of more than 80 authoritative travel writers who bring authentic voice and advice to more than 200,000 unique visitors each month, SheBuysCars brings together the insights and views of writers and reviewers who share their unbiased, honest and personal narratives about cars and their lives in cars.
SheBuysCars is designed to empower women as owners and buyers of cars, to help women to become more thoughtful about their cars and their purchase choices, and to foster a closer relationship between auto manufacturers and their female customers.
A long time journalist, editor, writer and TravelingMom contributor, Scotty wrote occasionally about cars, road trips and travel for TravelingMom, including an article about her 1,500 mile journey that ended in the purchase of her dream car. Soon after the story appeared, Scotty was posed with an intriguing idea: to develop the car buying story in to a full-service site: SheBuysCars.
A content development expert, Scotty began as a journalist and has written for the New York Times, Town & Country, Entrepreneur and Adweek, among others, and is the co-author of Stew Leonard, My Story, a biography of the founder of the iconic grocery company Stew Leonard’s. In addition to her writing, Scotty developed the program content for the American Express Publishing Luxury Summit, PRWeek magazine’s annual meeting and selected Luxury Marketing Council events. After years of traveling every week from Connecticut to New Jersey, with at least one night away from home, Kim began to seek out other moms who traveled for work to understand how they dealt with the guilt, the scheduling and their family relationships. She learned that advice from the trenches made travel–and life–much easier and often much more fun. Connecting with these moms and their stories made Kim realize that if she appreciated these insights, other traveling moms would, too, and TravelingMom.com was born. More than five years later, TravelingMom.com is among the best known family travel web communities, and its contributors’ advice and insight is sought out by national news networks, travel companies and traveling moms who need to know.
